Aston Villa appear to be going from strength-to-strength in the Sky Bet Championship this season, with Steve Bruce’s side looking likely to be challenging for a Premier League return later in the campaign.

Last season, Villa were extremely disappointing on their Championship return, but after a few key additions Bruce’s side look like one of the division’s most complete outfits, with extreme depth in their playing squad.

One of those additions is Glenn Whelan, who after a slow start to life at Villa Park, is beginning to show why Bruce made such an effort to bring the midfielder to the Championship over the summer.

The Irishman’s performances are constantly improving, and his role just ahead of the back-four is vital, just as he showed last night as Villa picked up a vital point at Elland Road against Leeds United.

Whelan put in a solid performance against Leeds, as Henri Lansbury’s second-half strike secured a 1-1 draw for Bruce’s side.
