Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes made his first Championship start of the season against Derby County last night and his performance appears to have drawn a split reaction from Owls fans.

Wednesday took a deserved early lead through Steven Fletcher in the 23rd minute, as he swept Barry Bannan's pass into the back of the net.

However, as has happened so many times in the 2019/20 campaign, the Owls failed to take advantage of their dominance and let their opponents back into the game late on.

In the 82nd minute, Moses Odubajo brought down Jack Marriott inside the penalty area, allowing Chris Martin to score an equaliser from the subsequent spot-kick.

Garry Monk opted to start in a 4-4-2, with Fletcher partnering Rhodes up front, in what was just the second start of the season for the 29-year-old.

Rhodes looked a bit rusty but showed some promising signs–taking one shot on target and one off target, and winning one of his three ground duels and six of his nine aerial duels (Sofascore).
