Saido Berahino is to be banished to the youth team for the rest of the season after being arrested earlier this week.

The 25-year-old was detained on suspicion of drink-driving in London in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Express and Star has reported that Berahino is set to train with the youth players for the rest of the season until the transfer window opens again in the summer to offload the striker.

The club reportedly want to sell the forward who is on a deal until the end of the 2022 season when the current campaign ends and the transfer window opens in the summer.

But with that avenue closed, for now, Nathan Jones has taken steps to remove Berahino from the first team and instead have him training with the development squads for the rest of the season.

We asked our team of FLW writers if they thought this was the right decision from the Championship club after the striker’s arrest earlier in the week.

Here’s what they had to say on the matter.

Gary Hutchinson

“Absolutely the right decision.

“They should sack him. Sunderland sacked Gibson, what’s the difference?

“He’s not even a key player for them, is he?

“Troublemaker. Always has been.”

Jacob Potter

"The ideal scenario.

"Berahino doesn't deserve to be in the first-team picture and I'm pleased to see the club acting upon his shocking actions.

"He doesn't have a future at the club and they should look to sell him as quickly as possible."

Louie Chandler

“Definitely the right decision.

“Jones is laying down the law at the beginning of his reign and rightly so. He wants to set a precedent of professionalism on and off the pitch and rightly so.

“He wants all his players pulling in the right direction, and if he feels someone is not doing that, then he has every right to act.”
