‘Absolutely not’, ‘Tough one’ – Joao Carvalho question sparks debate amongst these Nottingham Forest fans

Nottingham Forest’s club-record signing Joao Carvalho is currently facing an uncertain future at the City Ground, with the transfer window slamming shut in just over a fortnight.

The Portuguese midfielder has been in and out of the team under Sabri Lamouchi this season, with his performances often flattering to deceive since his move from Benfica last summer.

Carvalho was even left out of the squad that travelled to Reading last weekend, amid speculation linking him with a move away from the City Ground.

The Athletic claim that whilst the playmaker is settled at Forest, he could still be moved on this month, with Olympiacos being mentioned a possible destination for the 22-year-old.

Forest fans are divided on Carvalho – there are some who feel that he should be playing much better for a player of his value, but there are some who feel that he needs a consistent run of games in the starting XI.

Who is this former Nottingham Forest midfielder?

On Twitter, Forest fans have been debating whether they would sell Carvalho on this month, in order to make way for proven Championship forward Dwight Gayle, who scored 24 goals on loan at West Bromwich Albion last term.

The Newcastle United striker has been linked with a move to the City Ground, with the Telegraph claiming that £15m will be enough to lure him away from St. James’ Park this month.

Forest are in need of another forward after Rafa Mir joined Huesca on Tuesday night, and cover is undoubtedly needed for leading goalscorer Lewis Grabban.

Here, then, we take a look at whether Forest fans would cash in and sign Gayle instead…
