With the close of the loan transfer window looming, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce needs to move quickly if he needs to supplement his squad.

Bruce may look for experience to add competition to Orjan Nyland and Andre Moreira and could turn to Birmingham veteran keeper David Stockdale.

The former Brighton goalkeeper is clearly not in the first-team frame at the Blues, and a loan move away could be on thee cards.

So would a loan move for 32-year-old Stockdale be good business for Villa?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

This makes sense.

Gary Gardener was the last player to cross the divide a week or so ago, so why not.

Stockdale has no future at St. Andrews, and he is a solid Championship stopper, and would solid their fragmented goalkeeping situation with an assured performer at this level.

Low risk and potentially high reward, Steve Bruce should go for this deal.

Gary Hutchinson

Absolutely not, why would they?

They have two keepers, both are young and look decent whereas Stockdale is currently in some sort of exile at Birmingham.

There’s no value in this, unless they’re looking for experience to coach the other two.

Plus, crossing that Birmingham divide would make him even more popular in the Midlands!

Jay Williams

Stockdale is still a top Championship goalkeeper and I'm not sure why Birmingham have frozen him out to play Lee Camp instead.

Aston Villa might consider this move, although I'm not sure Birmingham would let their Second City rivals have him.

What Stockdale offers is a proven track record in the Championship and plenty of experience.

This is something that Orjan Nyland and Andre Moreira lack, although their best option would be to recall Jed Steer from his loan.

George Dagless

Yes.

If the Blues do not want him Villa should try and get him.

He is a good keeper who knows how to win promotion and would be more solid than what they have right now.
