Macauley Bonne is a man in demand in January, and it’s certainly clear to see why, with the striker in red-hot form this season for Leyton Orient.
Bonne has already scored 15 goals this season for the O’s as he looks to steer them towards promotion back to the Football League.
The Zimbabwe international had previously failed to make the impact he would have wanted in spells at both Colchester and Woking but he certainly has kicked on with Leyton Orient.
The 23-year-old has been attracting interest from the likes of Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Norwich City and Derby County according to a recent report from TEAMtalk.
Frank Lampard’s side will certainly feel as though they could benefit from adding to their already impressive firepower so that the likes of Jack Marriott and David Nugent can have competition for a starting spot with the Rams.
But should Derby be pursuing a deal for the Leyton Orient striker in January?
Bringing in another striker would certainly not be a bad thing for Derby.
Marriott has been in terrific form but with Waghorn and Nugent failing to hit the heights expected of them this season, another body would not be a bad idea.
If they can get him for a good price, then why not.
I’m not sure about this.
We’ve seen the likes of Jack Marriott excel at Derby since arriving from the lower leagues, but there is a huge gulf in class between the National League and the Championship.
He didn’t cut it at League Two level and Derby should steer clear of this one.
It’s far too big a step for the Zimbabwe international.
He needs to stay put at Leyton Orient and keep building his reputation.
There’s a huge difference between the National League and League Two, let alone the Championship.
