A number of Nottingham Forest fans have been slating the lack of impact that Luke Freeman was able to have for the Reds when coming off the bench in their 2-0 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday.

Forest came into the game looking to build on the back-to-back wins they picked up before the international break, and in the first half, there were signs of positivity with only the finishing touch letting them down with Miguel Ángel Guerrero in particular guilty of missing some presentable chances.

Chris Hughton had the option to call upon five substitutes to try and find an elusive breakthrough in the second half, but the only change he made was to bring on Freeman for Guerrero with 18 minutes remaining. Far from helping the Reds win the game they ultimately shipped two goals in the last five minutes to fall to a sixth league defeat of the campaign.

Freeman was brought in on loan from Sheffield United in the summer in the hope he could operate as that creative presence in the final third they had lacked at times last term. However, so far he has failed to register an assist and averaged just 0.8 shots per game (Sofascore).

Against Barnsley, he gave away the ball four times after coming onto the field, which caused a lot of frustration from Forest supporters over his lack of impact since he joined the club.

Here then, we take a look at some of the best responses to Freeman’s performance on social media…
