‘Absolutely gutted’, ‘Legend’ – Loads of Gillingham fans react as player makes announcement

Gillingham will be hopeful of having a more comfortable 2019/20 season after coming perilously close to the League One drop zone last time.

But they will have to negotiate it without star striker Tom Eaves, who announced his deparure from the club on Wednesday – with a move to Hull City reportedly imminent, according to Tom Barclay of The Sun.

Eaves has been a key figure at Priestfield for the last two seasons after signing from Yeovil Town but his time with the club has now officially come to an end and he shared a heartfelt message with the fans.

The 27-year-old gave his thanks to all the fans as well as key figures at the club including Ady Pennock, Peter Taylor, former manager Steve Lovell and all of his former teammates.

Over 97 appearances, Eaves netted 40 goals for the Gills assisting six more, regularly appearing towards the top of the third-tier scoring charts – scoring 21 times last season alone.

He became a fan-favourite, and they were gutted to see his time come to an end…
