Millwall are close to agreeing with the Lewisham council over a deal to stay in Bermondsey.

After run-ins with the previous regime over the land surrounding The Den and plans for regeneration to be sold to an off-shore company at an undisclosed price, things look to be taking a turn for the better.

The Guardian is reporting that Millwall are negotiation terms to stay at their current residence as well as working on its own plans to transform the stadium.

There were fears the London club would be forced out of Bermondsey if the highly controversial Compulsory Purchase Order was complete by former Lewisham mayor Steve Bullock.

Under new mayor, Damien Egan, the club and council have had positive discussions and have reached a satisfactory outcome for the club to on a contentious issue that has been a thorn in the Lions’ side for years.

Plans are at an early stage, but under a proposed new arrangement Millwall would retain the land while also putting forward its own plans to transform the stadium footprint.

If an agreement is reached to facilitate the needs of the Championship side, the developer and the council, then it will end a saga that has plagued the club for years.

It’s supremely positive news for Millwall and the fans who had been worried they might end up homeless if the ground around and including the stadium was sold off from under their noses at a knock-down price.

With that said, here’s what some of their supporters had to say on Twitter when the news broke.
