A number of Birmingham City supporters have been hailing the influence that Ivan Sanchez had for the Blues during the second half of their 2-1 win at Derby County on Saturday.
Lee Bowyer’s side continued their improvements and continued to pull well away from the relegation zone by turning around the game in the second half at Derby after going 1-0 behind. The Blues managed to show a lot of spirit to come back into the game and also quality thanks to some of the changes made during the second 45 minutes.
One of those changes was Sanchez, and the attacker managed to make a major difference with his quality and ability to make things happen in the final third. He produced an excellent delivery for Lukas Jutkiewicz to get his second goal of the game and what turned out to be the winning goal. It was a display that would have shown Bowyer the qualities he can bring to the side.
Birmingham City quiz: Does St Andrew’s have a higher or lower capacity than these 18 grounds?
In the second half, Sanchez managed to produce one key pass, create one big chance and also complete one successful dribble, as well as making two tackles and also winning three duels (Sofascore). He was heavily involved in the Blues’ turn around that now sees them secure in the Championship for another campaign.
Many Birmingham supporters were quick to heap praise on the forward’s performance at Derby and keen to stress that he should now be considered as a starter by Bowyer.
Here, we take a look at some of the best reactions on social media…
Ivan Sanchez’s seventh assist of the season. Only three other Blues players have recorded over six assists in one season since 2016: Jeremie Bela, Lukas Jutkiewicz and that Spanish DVB. #bcfc

Juke will get all the plaudits but the half time introduction of Sanchez changed everything. Immediately put us on the front foot and his quality is evident… #bcfc

Excellent second half from #bcfc. Sanchez and Halilovic helped open the game up. Suppose another season in the championship will have to do!

Unreal how much control MSJ gave us. Halilovic and Sanchez allowed us to be creative without having to involve the front two meaning they, Juke in particular, could be on the end of the creative situations in more dangerous areas. Effective subs, something we didn’t have. #bcfc

Surely Bowyer now knows that Sanchez needs to start? #bcfc

Ivan Sanchez is perhaps one of the most technically excellent players Blues have had in the last ten years. Seeing all the blues fans talk about player of the year and omitting his name, even as just a candidate is insulting. I hope keep him next year 🤞🏻 #BCFC
