Leeds United missed out on promotion to the Premier League on Wednesday night, in perhaps the cruelest way possible.
Plenty expected Leeds to ease on through into the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, especially after Stuart Dallas’ first half strike which put Marcelo Bielsa’s side 2-0 up on aggregate.
But Frank Lampard’s men came flying out of the blocks in the second half, with goals from Jack Marriott, Harry Wilson and Mason Mount securing a quite remarkable 4-3 win on aggregate for the Rams.
And now, all of a sudden, Leeds’ season is over. Despite sitting at the summit of the Championship table for the vast majority of the campaign, the Yorkshire club will now be once again preparing for life in the second tier, with or without Bielsa.
Plenty of players have taken to social media to thank the Elland Road faithful for their support this season, with Izzy Brown the latest to do.
The Chelsea loanee came on to replace Patrick Bamford on Wednesday night for the best part of seven minutes, putting an end to what has been a hugely frustrating time at Elland Road for the attacking midfielder.
After making just two appearances in a season that has been hampered with numerous injury problems, we take a look at Leeds fans’ reactions to this complete flop of a signing…
Must have spent a fortune of the medical departments budget. #lufc

Not fair , his attitude has been first class putting big shifts in for the 23s while biding his time. He can hold his head high.

We all appreciate his 13 minutes of football …

Honestly Phil why didn’t we send him back months ago? One of the most pointless loan signings ever.

Nice of him to depart straight away like that. I mean the message was great, but you don’t do that right after a game like we witnessed. Oh well, I’m sure more are to follow.

No disrespect towards him but one of the most pointless loan spells in our recent history!
