Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has suggested that the FA Cup First Round replay against Gillingham could be postponed by a week, which has drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the club.

The League One side are due to face the Gills next Tuesday after they drew 1-1 on the weekend.

However, the Black Cats have already had their League One tie with Bristol Rovers on Saturday rescheduled due to the international break.

Sunderland are without goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin and defenders Conor McLaughlin and Tom Flanagan, who have all been called up by their respective national team sides.

Parkinson's squad has also been depleted by injury and illness, with Lee Burge, Will Grigg, Joel Lynch, and Jordan Willis all understood to be affected.

Following their 3-0 loss to Scunthorpe in the EFL Trophy yesterday, the Black Cats boss revealed there is a possibility that the game against Gillingham will be pushed back by a week.

At this point, it is difficult to see how that would work as the Second Round of the FA Cup takes place on the last weekend of November, and Sunderland have League One ties on the 23rd and the 26th of the month.

This latest club update appears to have frustrated many fans of the club, who have taken to Twitter to criticise the side and suggest they should forfeit the game.
