Bristol City's season is showing many similarities to the previous campaign, with Lee Johnson's side on an alarming run of form after looking like they were in a promising position.

Whilst fans will be frustrated with how the last month or so has turned out, the reality is they have done extremely well to be just two points away from sixth with games in hand on the sides above.

That's because the Robins lost several key men in the summer, such as Joe Bryan, top scorer Bobby Reid and the dominant Aden Flint.

Losing the towering centre-back to Middlesbrough was a major setback and many Robins fans were very unhappy after the 29-year-old left.

That negativity and concern was completely valid as Flint, along with the other two players, were vital to the Robins team that did so well last season.

They memorably beat Manchester United in the League Cup and pushed Manchester City all the way but a play-off push didn't last.

So, to be in the mix once again highlights the great work that Johnson has done and also all those involved in recruitment as Adam Webster and Tomas Kalas have formed a formidable partnership in defence.

As it stands, Bristol City are on course to concede far fewer goals in the current campaign compared to last season with Flint too.

Ultimately, the next few months might not play out the way Robins fans want but the fact they are once again ready to compete for a shot at the Premier League is impressive as they had a very tough summer.
