Derby County were beaten 1-0 by Bristol City in their first game since Phillip Cocu's exit and many Rams supporters have taken shots at Wayne Rooney after the match.

Rooney is part of the interim team in charge of the side following Cocu's departure but also played all 90 minutes against the Robins.

Derby were on the front foot for long periods at Ashton Gate but it was the hosts that created the better of the chances and substitute Famara Diedhiou grabbed the decisive goal in the 78th minute.

After some fantastic build-up play, Antoine Semenyo picked out the striker and he fired a powerful finish into the bottom corner.

The result means that the Rams remain bottom of the Championship and is not the way Rooney will have wanted to start life as part of the interim coaching staff, having indicated he wants the permanent job previously.

The East Midlands club's search for a Cocu replacement is ongoing and a new boss seems unlikely to be appointed before Sheikh Khaled's £60 million takeover is completed.

That means Rooney still has time to turn things around, particularly with games coming thick and fast over the next few weeks.
