A number of Blackburn Rovers supporters have been heaping praise on midfielder John Buckley for his performance during Rovers’ 1-1 draw against Swansea City at Ewood Park on Tuesday.
Blackburn headed into the game looking to build on the 2-0 win they secured away at Millwall on Saturday as they aimed to get their form back on track after a difficult period of form. Rovers produced a spirited performance against Swansea and could even taken all three points against their automatic promotion-chasing opponents, but in the end, a point is a good result.
One player who produced a strong performance was Buckley, with the midfielder stepping up and producing one of his best performances for the club as he helped Tony Mowbray’s side prevent Swansea from building up a head of steam. It was a performance that should see the 21-year-old stake more of a claim for a regular starting role in what was just his fourth start of the campaign.
Buckley managed to make three tackles, one interception and one clearance, as well as winning eight duels and making one key pass (Sofascore). He was heavily involved throughout with 66 touches of the ball and it was the sort of performance that shows the ability he has that he now needs to show that consistently.
Many Blackburn fans were suggesting that he is starting to show his quality and that he should now be a regular starter in the side for the foreseeable future.
Here, we take a look at some of the best reactions on social media…
I’ve always been Critical of Buckley but he was brilliant tonight, taken his chance in the side in the last two games. There’s definitely quality in our squad and with the right manager and the right additions in the summer we can be optimistic for next season. COYB💙 #rovers

I’ve long championed John Buckley as the future of the #Rovers midfield. Many times I’ve tried to explain to doubters that his technical ability overrides the need to ‘bulk up’, that he’s already got enough physical presence and he’s suited to the Premier League. Exciting.

Really unlucky not to win there! Dolan and Brereton looked good again! And credit where it’s due, Buckley was brilliant, best game he’s had for us! Deserves to keep his place on Friday #Rovers

An encouraging and decent performance by #Rovers.
I think we were good value for all three points.
A lot of good performers on the night.
Buckley really impressed me.

The improvement John Buckley has shown shouldn’t go unnoticed… he looks stronger, better in the ball and has better awareness of what is happening on the pitch… some player #Rovers

Good performance. Made Swansea look very average. Buckley bossed the midfield. #rovers

I’d have taken a point before the match but #Rovers were the better team overall. Buckley superb.
