‘Absolute joke,’ ‘Unacceptable’ – Plenty of Barnsley fans react after FA Cup exit v Portsmouth

Barnsley were beaten 4-2 by Portsmouth in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday afternoon.

Approaching the game, Barnsley were deemed as favourites given their Championship status – but it proved to be a tricky afternoon for Gerhard Struber’s side.

Ben Close opened the scoring for Pompey in the 37th minute, before John Marquis doubled their lead in first half stoppage time.

The visitors did manage to get a goal back as Cauley Woodrow scored on the hour mark, but any hope of getting an equaliser were dashed within two minutes as Ronan Curtis scored.

And, the home side would add further salt into the wounds of Barnsley as Christian Burgess struck with 14 minutes remaining on the clock.

Conor Chaplin scored in stoppage time for the Tykes, but it wasn’t enough as they exited the competition at Fratton Park.
