West Brom's Kieran Gibbs missed the Baggies win at Scunthorpe this afternoon after picking up an injury.

Slaven Bilic went with a strong side at Glanford Park, so it was surprising for fans to see that the former Arsenal left-back wasn't involved. Perhaps understandably, that prompted fears among the West Brom fan base that the 29-year-old could be on the move.

However, Birmingham Live revealed that there was nothing to be worried about on that front, with Gibbs missing out because he picked up a knock in training.

They add that the player is set to see a specialist about the injury, although they importantly add that it's not a setback that is concerning people at the club right now.

The former England international was given a 45-minute run out as the Baggies lost 3-0 to Villarreal in Spain last week and he will hope to be involved before Albion's season kicks-off in early August.

Conor Townsend came in for Gibbs this afternoon and impressed as Bilic's men recorded a resounding 4-0 victory against the League Two outfit.

The Verdict

This is a slight worry as Gibbs has had a lot of injury problems over the years and the fact he couldn't feature today is obviously not ideal.

Having said that, the report states that there is no real concern from the club even though he is going to speak to a specialist.

With his pedigree and quality, there's no doubt that the ex-Arsenal man would start the season as first-choice for Bilic as he is a top player for the second-tier.

But, Townsend proved today that he can be an able stand in which will have pleased the boss.
