Aberdeen close in on swoop for 25-year-old, his replacement already secured

Peterborough United midfielder Chris Forrester is close to making a switch to Aberdeen, according to HITC Sport.

Forrester has been transfer listed by Peterborough as he enters the final year of his contract at the ABAX Stadium as they look to make some money on him rather than lose him for free.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 international moved to England in 2015 to join Posh after spells in Ireland with Bohemians and St Patrick’s Athletic.

After making 38 appearances for the club this season and over 100 in total, it may have come as a shock to a few fans to see Forrester included on their comprehensive transfer list but Darragh MacAnthony is aiming to a complete rebuilding project and wants to cash in on players like Forrester.

Aberdeen, who finished second to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, are set to unveil the 25-year-old as a Dons player as they look to have beaten a number of teams to his signature.

Peterborough have already signed their replacement for the holding midfielder.

The club’s official website yesterday confirmed the undisclosed signing of Alex Woodyard from Lincoln City on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old made over 100 appearances for the Imps, helping his side win promotion back to the Football League and finish in the League Two play-off spots in their first season back.

The Verdict

Forrester will be a big loss for Posh but they clearly do not want to lose any money on any of their players.

What the Irishman can offer Aberdeen is solidity in the middle of the park and he still has his best years ahead of him.

In Woodyard, they have a relatively young midfielder who will be hungry to succeed at a higher level after proving himself in the divisions below.
