Swansea City are one of several Championship clubs that are thought to be interested in Shrewsbury Town centre-back Aaron Pierre.

Whilst Steve Cooper's side have enjoyed a brilliant season so far, which has been built on a solid defence, they are probably one defender short having lost the influential Joe Rodon to Tottenham in the previous window.

And, it has been suggested that the Welsh side could make a move for Pierre, who has been one of the standouts for Shrewsbury this season.

Here we assess the latest involving the 27-year-old, and whether he could make a switch to the Liberty Stadium in the coming weeks...

Quiz: Do Cardiff City and Swansea City have these 10 things in common?

What do we know so far?

We know that Swansea are on the lookout for a centre-back, and Pierre's name has been mentioned.

Cooper has generally gone with a back three this season, but there is a lack of senior cover behind Ben Cabango, Marc Guehi and Ryan Bennett, with the latter suffering with an injury right now.

So, one more centre-back would be ideal for Cooper, and Pierre would fit the bill. He is strong, aggressive and capable in possession, so it could be a good fit.

Is it likely to happen this month?

There's every chance this could go through.

Shrewsbury aren't in a position where they could turn down a decent fee for the player, and Pierre would surely jump at the chance to move to the Championship.

Of course, he won't be the only name on Swansea's list, and other Championship interest does make it more complicated. However, if they want the defender, there are no clear obstacles that could prevent this from happening.
