Bolton Wanderers have been almost unrecognisable since the turn of the year and will be hoping to carry that momentum into next season.

Ian Evatt's men strengthened their squad significantly in January, and if they can recruit as smartly in the summer, they will fancy their chances of finishing in the top six.

January addition Aaron Morley was feeling even more confident when he spoke to The Bolton News.

He said: "It has been a massive step up in terms of the quality of football and the intensity.

"I’m learning on and off the field, really, but it really has been class.

"Next season I want more goals, more assists, help the defence out with clean sheets, but I definitely think we are good enough to get promotion next season.

"Since I have been here we have been going well.

"If we take this form into next season then I see no reason why we couldn’t get automatic.

"Before I came to the club they had a dip in form but since January we’ve had long runs unbeaten, and I just think this is a great team to be part of now."

The Trotters have been very ambitious since falling to League Two in 2019/20, and Morley's aspirations fit in line with that.

It will be interesting to see who comes in with the favourites tag heading into next season in League One.

The Verdict

There is a lot of competition for places, particularly in midfield areas, at Bolton at the moment, but Morley has been one of the first names on the team sheet since signing.

The 22-year-old is excellent from dead ball situations and has a strong contingent of attacking players, relying on his creativity in the final third.

Barnsley and Peterborough United will be expected to compete towards the top end of League One next season, with Derby County also a threat on the outskirts if they can sort out their off-pitch situation in the coming weeks.

Morley has shown a lot of promise in just half a season and will be a key player if Bolton are to realise their lofty ambitions next term.
