‘A world of his own’ – Plenty of Charlton fans discuss player who touched the ball just 21 times Burton defeat

Charlton Athletic’s eight-game unbeaten run in the league came to a shuddering end on Tuesday night, as they were stunned by a 4-2 defeat to struggling Burton Albion at The Pirelli Stadium.
Goals from Lukas Akins and Joe Powell had the hosts 2-0 ahead after 40 minutes, and although Paul Smyth pulled one back for the Addicks before half time, Sam Hughes’ strike quickly restored Burton’s lead after the interval.
Again Charlton pulled one back, this time through Chuks Aneke midway through the second half, but Charles Vernam’s goal 14 minutes from time was enough to seal all three points for the Brewers.
On a frustrating night for Charlton, one man who struggled considerably, was Marcus Maddison.
The summer signing, of whom so much was expected at The Valley, failed to make any sort of an impact on the game, completing just 63.6% of his passes and touching the ball just 21 times before being substituted after 57 minutes of the game, according to WhoScored.
That is something that did not go unnoticed by a number of Charlton fans as they took to Twitter to give their thoughts on the game, with Maddision coming in for a considerable amount of criticism.
Here, we take a look at what some of those supporters had to say about the attacker.
Maddison off! Good! If that’s the last I see of him I won’t be sorry… lazy excuse of a player #cafc

Albie Morgan was the best player on the pitch tonight. It’s clear Maddison doesn’t actually want to play for us too. #cafc

Is it just me, or is Maddison in a world of his own? Sometimes players just don’t fit the bill – he just looks out of place…would love to be proved wrong, but ……. ?#cafc

Only positive from last night… confirms that I would have Albie Morgan over Marcus Maddison any day… think bowyer has made a mistake there…. #cafc

Wasn’t the worse player on the pitch tonight, but based on his last 2 performances Maddison is nicking a living and looks disinterested! Had high hopes when we signed up #cafc

What’s so frustrating is how gifted their goals were. They were 2-0 up without doing a thing. Desperately need one of the CB’s back & fit or even Charlie Barker back in the fold. Not sure what Maddison has done to starting these last 2 games, need to earn his chance imo #cafc

Really struggling to see Maddison being a good player for us…….. #cafc

Maddison doesnt fit into this midfield at all. Never gonna create with Shinnie picking the ball up so deep #cafc
