Nottingham Forest’s new manager Martin O'Neill has been tipped to recall defender Joe Worrall from his season-long loan at Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

Garry Birtles believes the new boss at the City Ground could terminate the deal with the Scottish giants and bring the 22-year-old back to the Championship when quoted by the Herald Scotland.

Worrall has been a regular at times for Steven Gerrard’s side this season and has sometimes been impressive when he has featured for the SPL side.

Forest have issues in defence, and they were heightened this past weekend when Danny Fox and Tendayi Darikwa were both shown straight red cards in the defeat to Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

With that said, we asked our team of FLW writers if they felt this was a good move by O’Neill to potentially recall Worrall from his loan stint at Rangers?

Here is what they said on the matter.

Gary Hutchinson

“This would be a wise move by O’Neill.

“Worrall has been getting big game experience, but a new manager brings new ideas, and Worrall could be a part of that.

“It’s all change at the City Ground, and the youngster will want to make a big impression, setting him in good stead for the future.

“Exciting times in the East Midlands.”

George Dagless

“I'm really not sure.

“Is he going to play straight away? Then again, he's been in and out of the Rangers side too.

“Steven Gerrard likes him, he's made that clear, so perhaps we've got a bit of a tussle on the horizon.”

Jay Taylor

“I think this could be an inspired move by Martin O’Neill.

“Joe Worrall is the future of the club, being that he is still only 22-years-old.

“He would have learned a lot during his six months north of the border at a club the size of Rangers and would have undoubtedly improved.

“It could be the catalyst to sure things up at the back for the Championship and pushing on to sustaining a play-off push.”
