Portsmouth have been in absolutely stunning form under Kenny Jackett this season although head into their clash with Barnsley off the back of a defeat.

Pompey were beaten 2-1 by fellow promotion hopefuls Charlton Athletic at Fratton Park on Tuesday night and they will be looking to bounce back against another top-six side this weekend in Barnsley.

Despite the loss, the South Coast side still sit top of the League One table with 21 games played with a six-point cushion on second-placed Luton Town.

That loss to the Addicks was just their second of the season, having succumbed to Gillingham earlier in the campaign, so it could well be a case of being aware of the wounded beast for the Tykes.

With Dion Donohue returning from injury and with Ben Thompson having his midweek red card overturned, the Pompey boss has a near complete set of players to pick from.

And here is how we expect them to line-up...

MacGillivray has been terrific since arriving in the summer.

He has staved off tough competition from Luke McGee to become Jackett's number one and there is no reason he won't continue in that role on Saturday.

Thompson has been a solid presence on the right of the Pompey defence this season.

He is defensively sound and more than capable of contributing at the other end of the pitch as well.

Watmough will continue at centre-back.

He has finally been given his chance this season since arriving from Havant and Waterlooville back in 2016 and has grasped it with both hands.

An impressive defensive partnership is forming here.

The two 22-year-olds will continue to partner each other on Saturday and could well be in for their biggest test yet.

A welcome return is likely to be in store for Donohue.

The Irishman has become a fan favourite over the last two seasons and has shown he offers plenty both in attack and defence.

It may be a bit harsh on Lee Brown, but that is football.

The central-midfield duo has arguably been the most important part of Pompey's side this season.

One half of that is summer-signing Tom Naylor who has been immense in the middle of the park, flawlessly linking defence with attack.

Partnering him will, of course, be Ben Thompson.

Having had his red card rescinded, the midfielder is free to resume the brilliant partnership he has formed with Naylor.

Unwelcome news for Barnsley you'd suspect.

The front four for Pompey picks itself really.

Lowe will, of course, start on the right and with seven goals and four assists already it would be a huge surprise to see him dropped.

The man who has slipped under the radar so far this season.

Evans has been a slick creative threat all season behind the striker and is the person that makes the dynamic attack tick.

On the left will be the much-talked-about Ronan Curtis.

Villa loanee Andre Green is pushing him hard for the left-wing spot but the Irishman will keep him out of the XI once again.

Leading the line will be Hawkins.

With just five goals to his name, it could be argued that he is not having the best season, but his hold-up and link-up play has been nothing short of outstanding all season.

He is a crucial member.
