Nottingham Forest are perhaps one of the Sky Bet Championship’s most frustrating clubs to support, with Mark Warburton’s side so inconsistent during the first-half of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Reds have shown their quality at times this year, but have been guilty on more than one occasion of crumbling defensively, which will be a major concern for Warburton heading into the New Year.

Warburton’s side might’ve made an inconsistent start, but heading into 2018, they look set to be within touching distance of the top-six and well placed to push on and challenge, if they can address their problems early.

The January transfer window is likely to be key for Forest, who are in desperate need of reinforcements, particularly in defence, which has proved to be the main problem at the City Ground this season.

With that in mind, we take a look at TWO players Forest should look to sign ASAP when the transfer window opens…

Eldin Jakupovic – Leicester City

Forest’s need for a goalkeeper is great, with far too much pressure on Jordan Smith, who is still learning his way in the game.

Jakupovic’s opportunities with Leicester have been limited, but last season at Hull, the goalkeeper was extremely impressive, earning plenty of plaudits at the KCOM Stadium.

Warburton will want to address his goalkeeping issues early in the transfer window, and a move for Jakupovic should be one of Forest’s first pieces of business.

Charlie Mulgrew – Blackburn Rovers

Could Forest lure Mulgrew away from Ewood Park? If they could he could be exactly what they need.

The 31-year-old defender has a wealth of experience, and could aid the development of the likes of Joe Worrall, whilst also solving Forest’s ongoing problems in central defence.

Added to that Mulgrew’s exceptional goalscoring record for Blackburn, and he could be a shrewd short-term addition at the City Ground.
