Ipswich Town are enjoying a remarkable season in the Championship, with Mick McCarthy’s side well on course to challenge for a playoff spot in the second half of the campaign.

Lambasted by many for his summer signings, the likes of Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn have proven true revelations at Portman Road, with the former Rangers pair instrumental to the Tractor Boys’ rise up the table.

Ipswich have been consistent all year, and lie within touching distance of the top-six.

McCarthy is an experienced boss who will not rest on his laurels however, and will look to the January transfer window for a boost to his squad ahead of what he knows is the business end of the season.

Players may have to depart before new faces can be brought in however, and this pair could be on the way out after failing to make an impact at the club so far this term…

Kevin Bru

Bru is not needed at Portman Road, and it is highly likely his spell in Suffolk will come to an end in the new year.

The Mauritius international has made just one start in the league and five substitute appearances, and it appears his time at the club is over.

At the age of 29, Bru needs to be playing regular first-team football, and is wasting the best years of his career on the bench.

Sides in the Championship will pay an interest in the experienced player, who could even be open to a drop into the third tier if the right offer were to materialise.

A player of Bru’s ability and experience is also likely to attract attention from teams across Europe and in emerging leagues around the world, so an exciting opportunity could open up very soon.

Tommy Smith

Having made just a couple of appearances this season, Smith appears surplus to requirements at the club.

McCarthy have certainly underutilised the player, who would be a solid addition to many of the sides in the lower half of the division battling relegation.

The New Zealand international must find a new club to ensure his best years are not spent wasting away on the sidelines, with the 27-year-old currently in the peak years of what is a short career in the professional game.

Smith will have no shortage of suitors, and McCarthy will be pleased to garner a fee for a player who has spent the majority of the season keeping the bench warm in Suffolk.
