Sheffield Wednesday youngster Matthew Penney has been a revelation for Jos Luhukay's side this season in a promising start to his professional career at Hillsborough.

Penney has made nine appearances in total and the 20-year-old's recent impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed with Aston Villa and Premier League side Brighton emerging as the frontrunners to land Penney's signature.

The defender has made himself a crucial member of Luhukay's squad that have been in excellent form recently, and that impressive run has seen them occupy a play-off spot in the Championship.

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday have opened contract talks with Penney amid speculation that Brighton could make a move for the defender in January.

Penney will be hoping to be involved for the Owls when they host Middlesbrough on Friday evening, where a win could see Luhukay's side move up to 5th with a win.

But what do our FLW writers think about the potential of Penney joining the Premier League side?

We discuss.....

Chris Gallagher

It would be a bad move for the youngster.

You can understand why Brighton want him as he has the potential to be a good player.

However, he won't get a game in Chris Hughton's side now, so he would be better served staying at Wednesday, or moving somewhere that guarantees him first-team football.

Louie Chandler-

A very wise signing.

Brighton have a brilliant transfer policy and are never afraid to dip into the Football League so it would be a great signing for all involved.

Jay Taylor-

This would be a typical Brighton transfer.

Matt Penney has all the attributes to flourish in the Premier League.

His style of play and skill set makes him an archetypal Brighton signing and it would be one that would help flourish his career.
