Despite being unbeaten in five matches, Birmingham City manager Pepo Clotet is already looking ahead to the summer and how he can strengthen his squad, with a move for Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng being considered, according to a report by TEAMtalk.

Ng, 23, has been at Gresty Road for his whole career, except for a brief spell out on-loan at Hyde United and is currently captain at the Railwayman who lie third in League Two as we enter the final third of the season.

So would Ng be a good signing for the Blues and is he good enough for the Championship?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"Ng has been highly rated for a very long time and it is easy to see why looking at his stats from recent seasons.

"He has been an ever-present for the League Two promotion hopefuls throughout his time at the club, scoring five times and assisting 13 more in total.

"At 23 he still has a lot of improving to do as well, so whilst he may not be ready for the Championship right away, there is no questioning that he would be in six months or so.

"It would be a very wise investment for the Blues and one they should continue to chase."

“Ng is playing very well in League Two with Crewe so it’s no surprise that teams are sniffing round to potentially sign him.

“Having made 32 league appearances this season, he is helping Crewe towards an automatic promotion push as they sit in third and just two points off the top.

“Pep Clotet is currently using Maxime Colin as his first-choice right-back and he isn’t doing that bad a job, so I’m not convinced that Ng would come straight into the lineup for him.

“Ng would definitely add more depth to the squad and while it is hard to say whether he is good enough for the Championship, his performances this season deserve a transfer higher up the footballing ladder.”

Toby Wilding

"I could see this being a useful signing for Birmingham.

"After several years impressing at Crewe, it does feel as though Ng ought to be ready to make the step up a division or two sooner rather than later, and Birmingham would give him the option to do that.

"With the St Andrews' club somewhat short on options on the right-hand side of their defence at the minute, that may well be a position they will want to strengthen in the summer, and Ng is a player who they could turn to in order to add an option in that position, with the chance to play in the Championship something that may well tempt the Crewe man.

"While there would be some questions about whether Ng is capable of walking straight into a Championship side, it should also be worth noting that at 23-year-old, Ng still has plenty of time to develop and improve at that level, meaning this could be a smart investment from a long-term perspective for Birmingham as well."
