Next season looks set to be a very interesting one for Birmingham City after surviving a turbulent 2018/19 campaign.

Garry Monk's side played very well for the majority of it, with a play-off push never looking too far away, but after incurring a nine-point deduction they dropped into a relegation scrap.

But they came through it impressively and with all embargoes now lifted for the upcoming transfer window, the club will have much more freedom to strengthen.

And Monk has offered an insight into how he plans to go about things, saying his policy will remain the same to previous seasons, report the Birmingham Mail.

So, is this a good idea?

We discuss...

Gary Hutchinson

“What transfer policy?

“He couldn’t sign anyone last season, so I hope it’s not a literal comment!

“A frugal approach is right though and they have every reason to trust Monk.

“He did a great job last season and with a bit of backing, albeit limited, he can take them much higher next time out.”

Toby Wilding

"I think this is probably a smart move.

"After their points deduction last season, Birmingham must be careful with how they approach this transfer window.

"With midfield set to be the position they are shortest in due to the expiration of Gary Gardner and Connor Mahoney's loans, this seems the most sensible area to focus on."

George Harbey

"I think it’s a very wise choice from Monk.

"Let’s be honest, if they hadn’t been deducted points due to their breach of FFP regulations, then they could have well found themselves in the play-off spots at the end of the season.

"Of course, they need to control their spending next season, but signing players who will fight for every ball whilst possessing real quality on the ball will bode them well for the future."
