Norwich City could target Dwight Gayle in the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Premier League next season.

Gayle was top scorer for West Brom during a season-long loan from Newcastle last season, scoring 24 goals in 40 league appearances for The Baggies.

With West Brom failing to win promotion, however, The Express and Star have reported that the club's technical director Luke Dowling has ruled out the club making another move for the striker.

One club who could take an interest in Gayle however are Norwich, with The Daily Mail reporting that the 28-year-old is an option for The Canaries, who are looking to improve their striking options ahead of next season in order to relieve some of the pressure on top scorer Teemu Pukki.

So would Gayle be a good signing for Norwich?

We put that question to some of our Football League World writers.

Jacob Potter

"This would be a fantastic signing.

"Gayle has already proven that he is a prolific goalscorer in English football, and he's exactly the type of player the Canaries should be targeting.

"Daniel Farke needs a striker that can challenge Teemu Pukki for his starting spot in the Norwich side, and Gayle is more than capable of doing that next season."

Toby Wilding

"I'm not convinced this would be the best move for Norwich.

"As prolific as he has been in the Championship, Gayle has yet to really hit those levels in the Premier League, with either Newcastle or Crystal Palace.

"With Gayle still under contract at St James' Park, he is unlikely to be cheap, and given Teemu Pukki has yet to experience the Premier League, that makes me think that relying on those two could be a big risk from both a football and financial perspective."

George Harbey

"This is a bit is risk in my view.

"Gayle scores goals for fun in the Championship, as demonstrated during his spells with West Brom and Newcastle, but he’s never really cut it in the Premier League.

"West Brom didn’t sign him because of his wages , and Norwich are a club that like to sign players on bargain deals, so this would be a very strange addition for me."
