Derby are reportedly targeting Brighton goalkeeper, Christian Walton over a possible permanent move, according to The Sun (18th February, page 61).

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Wigan from the Seagulls and it seems as though his long-term future lies away from the Premier League club.

He has been a regular for the Latics and has been impressive in the two seasons he has spent with Wigan, and it will come as no surprise to see him attracting interest.

There is uncertainty over Kelle Roos' future at Derby and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Dutchman could be leaving the club in the summer.

Frank Lampard needs adequate competition for former England goalkeeper, Scott Carson and Walton would be a more than good enough option to challenge the veteran shot-stopper.

But would Walton be a good signing for Derby in the summer?

We discuss....

Alfie Burns:

"It's an area I feel Derby need to strengthen in the coming transfer window.

"Walton would be a good option, but as always, you feel there is a better one out there.

"However, Lampard's recruitment has been good so far you've got to have trust in him."

George Harbey:

"This would be a class signing by Derby.

"I absolutely love Walton as a goalkeeper, he is fantastic and has many years ahead of him to grow as a player.

"Where does this leave Kelle Roos though?"

Louie Chandler:

"A very smart signing.

"Carson will not be far away from retirement and whilst Roos has shown signs of quality, he will definitely need competition.

"Walton has done well for Wigan this season and at 23 he has plenty of room for improvement under Lampard as well."
