Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards is training with Brentford as he looks to earn a move to Griffin Park in the window.

That's according to football.london, who revealed that the 20-year-old will be allowed to leave the north London club this summer after he wasn't included on their pre-season tour to the Far East.

A technically gifted attacking midfielder, Edwards has been extremely highly-rated by Spurs but has struggled to break into the first-team and has been sent out on loan instead.

Despite a poor spell with Norwich, he was an important player for Excelsior last season in the Dutch Eredivisie and he will hope to take that moving forward as he looks to fulfill his potential.

So, would he be a good signing for the Bees? Our writers take a look...

Toby Wilding

"I can see this being a good signing for Brentford.

"Be in this window or another one, it seems to be inevitable that with the amount of interest there is, the club's top attacking talent will be sold, and the club will need to start looking for replacements.

"Bringing in someone now such as Edwards, whose time at Tottenham and experience on loan in the Dutch top flight last season certainly suggests that he has the potential and ability to make the step into the Championship sooner rather than later.

"Securing Edwards' service now therefore, may not be a bad idea for the Bees, as it could give him the opportunity to familiarise himself with the club and develop his game further in the coming campaign, better preparing him to step into the first team should the time come that he is needed to do so, while also saving Brentford the challenge of having to go out and find another replacement further down the line."

George Harbey

"I think that this would be a very interesting signing for Brentford, but it’s surely worth a shout.

"Edwards hasn’t hit the heights expected of him at Spurs, but he enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Excelsior last season that probably made him regain his confidence.

"He likes to get on the ball and create chances, which makes him a perfect fit for the Brentford way of playing.

"They need competition for the likes of Sergi Canos and Said Benrahma, and he would provide that in abundance."

Louie Chandler

"When it comes to recruitment, I do not think there is a side in the Football League that does it better than the Bees.

"So I think you have to trust the scouts and Frank on this one and I cannot claim to know too much about Edwards.

"But he is young, attack focus and, if he has the correct attitude, could fly at Griffin Park.

"He will no doubt arrive with a point to prove to the North London club and if Brentford can benefit from that then he will be another very clever addition."
