Nottingham Forest defender Carl Jenkinson has heaped praise on in-demand teammate Matty Cash, suggesting he has played at "a very high level" despite having to adapt with the switch to right-back this season.

Cash has spent the majority of his career as a midfielder but has been utilised on the right side of defence on occasion in the past, as his dynamism and energy make him a real weapon on the flanks.

This season, Sabri Lamouchi has utilised him in that role on a permanent basis, a decision that has worked to great effect.

Cash has proved himself as one of the most exciting young defenders in the league, adding three goals and four assists so far, and helped the Reds compete near the top of the Championship.

Speaking to The Athletic, Jenkinson heaped praise on the 22-year-old and credited him for the way he's taken to the right-back role.

He said: "Cashy has done so well, being a young player in an unfamiliar position. He has had to learn on the job. He has been doing that at a very high level — and that is not easy. It is a credit to him, the way he is playing.”

It appears that Jenkinson is not alone in being impressed by Cash, as AC Milan, West Ham United, and Leeds United have all been linked with a potential move for him this term.

The Verdict

Jenkinson's praise is apt, Cash has been excellent this season at right-back and has adjusted to his new role fantastically.

It looks as though it could be a pivotal summer for Cash, who is likely to have a number of suitors.

Though, Forest's chances of keeping hold of him will likely be increased by the financial impact of the current global situation.

There remains uncertainty where the 22-year-old will be playing his football but what seems clear is that he has got a very, very bright future ahead of him.
