Nottingham Forest manager Martin O'Neill looks like he has beaten off the challenge of Scottish giants Rangers in the race to sign full-back and free-agent Martin Olsson, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

Olsson, 31, has spent the last two seasons at Swansea City having previously made over 100 appearances for both Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City.

So, would Olsson prove a good signing for Forest?

We discuss.........

Toby Wilding

"This is a good signing for Forest.

"Olsson's pace and ability should make him a decent addition for Forest in the coming season, and his experience of the Championship won't be a bad thing either.

"The fact he is available on a free will also help, although it won't change the fact that there is pressure on Forest to reduce the numbers in their squad."

Kealan Hughes

“This would be a real coup, providing they aren’t paying him over the odds.

“Olsson is excellent in the Championship and capable at Premier League level, which makes him an ideal signing for Forest given their ambitions.

“Olsson will provide a threat from deep and he could be an excellent supporting act for Joe Lolley, although Forest fans will worry about how defensively strong that partnership is.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Not for me, no.

“I can’t see this as a step forward for Forest.

“It’s the sort of capture that will get fans wondering if Martin O’Neill really is the man to take them forward.

“They need something different, not the same recycled faces from other clubs. Olsson is competent, but he’s not game changing.”

George Brooks

"This would be a very good signing for Nottingham Forest and Martin O'Neill.

"Olsson is a good defender and has plenty of experience in the Championship.

"He'd be a very good addition, as O'Neill looks to build a side who can challenge for promotion next season."

Jacob Potter

"It would solve a problem position.

"Nottingham Forest have always lacked depth at full-back, and I think Olsson would certainly solve that issue heading into next season.

"He’s a player with experience at a top level, having played for Swansea for a number of years, and he’d certainly add something to Martin O’Neill’s side.

"With Olsson being a free agent as well, it should be a no-brainer for the Reds."
