Jamie Shackleton vowed to push on quickly from his Leeds United debut and a new contract at Elland Road, saying his appearance in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Derby County had given him the “sniff” of regular first-team football as reported on Sky Sports.

Shackleton signed an improved three-year agreement with Leeds yesterday, 48 hours after making his first senior appearance as a substitute at Pride Park.

Is the new deal for Shackleton a good play by Marcelo Bielsa?

We discuss.....

A very good move.

He is a young academy talent and if Marcelo Bielsa rates him, he can’t be that bad.

Tying him down to a new deal secures his future at Elland Road and will allow him time to develop under the Argentinian.

He’s expected to start for Leeds tonight and make his full debut after the Derby debut from the bench last weekend.

Leeds love one of their own doing well and Shackleton is seemingly the next in line.

It’s a move fans will welcome, everyone likes to see one of their own emerge from the shadows and become a big name.

I’ve not seen enough of Shackleton to say whether he’s got a long term future or not, but the manager’s opinion is enough to suggest he will have.

The Leeds talent conveyor has had plenty rumbling along recently, the sale of Vieira demonstrates the quality they have in the U23 squad.

This deal will certainly give the Elland Road faithful a new hero on which to pin their hopes.

This was a good move by Leeds.

The 18-year-old looks set to be the next academy product to flourish at Elland Road, and it was important the club tied him down to a new deal.

Shackleton is an incredibly promising talent and if Leeds nurture him correctly, he could excel in seasons to come.

Without doubt.

You don't know how good he could become but he's done well so far and so it makes sense to get him on a long-term deal.

Under Marcelo Bielsa he could become a very good young player indeed.
