Aston Villa will still be reeling after their disappointing 2-0 defeat to local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday.

The Villans had been enjoying a rich vein of form, but they were dominated by the Black Country side on the weekend.

Villa looked shaky at the back, even with the presence of the commanding John Terry, and you have to wonder if Bruce made a mistake letting Nathan Baker leave for Bristol City in the summer.

The defender is flourishing at the Robins alongside Aden Flint in defence.

Do you think Steve Bruce regrets this decision?

The writers here at FLW have their say....

George Dagless

There's a good case for that.

It was adjudged that Baker was not as good as the likes of James Chester and that is why he was let go.

However, Chester struggled against Wolves at the weekend and there's a case to suggest that Baker should have been kept for this moment.

Chester is going to stay in the side ahead of Chris Samba but Baker staying would have ensured extra strength in depth - especially with his form this season.

Alongside Aden Flint, Baker is part of an impressive defence at Bristol City.

Villa’s decision to let the defender leave over the summer looks a silly decision.

Chris Samba and John Terry arrived, and Baker moved out, the reason why is beyond me.

Samba and Terry are both excellent, but excellent short-term options. Villa might not be regretting their decision fully yet, but in two years time, they could be really kicking themselves.

Chris Gallagher

A very big mistake. As Villa fans would admit.

Whilst John Terry has been assured this season and James Chester has significantly improved, behind them Villa look weak. Did they really let Baker go to bring in 33-year old Chris Samba?

Whether Baker would've stayed as an understudy to the first-choice pairing who knows, or maybe Steve Bruce would play with a back three.

Either way, they sold the defender far too soon.
