Scottish champions Celtic have recently been linked with a move to sign Aston Villa defender Micah Richards.

The 30-year old is massively out of favour at Villa Park, and hasn't made an appearance for the West Midlands club since October 2016 in Villa's 1-1 draw with Wolves, and hasn't been named in the match-day squad since September 2017.

With a move away from the club looking ever likely in January, reports have surfaced that Brendan Rodgers' Celtic are interested in signing the defender.

Here, we discuss whether it's a good signing for the SPL side...

George Harbey

"If you can get him back up to full fitness, then it could be a great signing for Celtic.

"We've seen Scott Sinclair flourish at Celtic Park since departing Villa, and Richards should look to follow in his footsteps in order to reignite his career.

"He'll be looking to prove a point after being frozen out at Villa."

Jacob Potter

"If he can get match fit, it's a smart bit of business.

"He's been frozen out at Aston Villa, and I'm surprised to see Celtic taking a punt on Richards, as he hasn't got any first-team experience in the last few seasons.

"But if Brendan Rodgers can get him up to speed, then he could be a smart signing by Celtic."

Louie Chandler

"A truly dreadful idea.

"What appeal does Micah Richards still have? He has happily sat on the sidelines for Aston Villa picking up his wages for ages now.

"He clearly has an attitude problem and probably limited footballing ability now as well."
