Plenty of Aston Villa fans have reacted to a message from defender Tommy Elphick on social media, after it was reported that he will be leaving the club in the summer.

Elphick has been an important player for Villa over the past few seasons, but is out of contract at Villa Park in the summer and will not be offered a new deal.

The 31-year-old posted this message to Villa fans on his personal Twitter feed, describing it as a privilege to play for the club and expressing his joy at helping the team win promotion in his final season.

Elphick spent the first half of last season on loan at Championship rivals Hull City, but was re-called from his season-long loan early and went on to make 14 appearances for Villa in the second half of the campaign.

Villa won promotion to the Premier League on Monday with a 2-1 win over Derby County in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Even though Elphick did not play in any of the play-off games, he still played an important role in helping Dean Smith's side finish in the top six last season.

His message caused quite a reaction from Villa fans on social media, with many of them responding by thanking him for his contribution to the club over the past few years and wishing him all the best for the future.
