Luton Town have been desperate to move away from Kenilworth Road for some time.

Their famous old ground, with the alleyway leading to the away end, has been iconic for some years now, but it's far from fit for purpose.

As the club rise through the divisions, they need a purpose built new ground.

Talks have been going on for years, but the plans never got the go ahead and it seemed they were destined to be bound within the confines of their current home for ever.

Last night, Luton Town Council approved plans to build a new ground at Newlands Park.

It's a huge victory for all concerned with the club, from managing director Gary Sweet to the rank and file fans who know, with growing sadness, that they've got to move home to be a success.

On the field they're flying, top of League One and set for a successive promotion, but finally they're in similar shape off the field.

Any development and move is some distance away, but finally Luton Town have a full and rich future to loom forward too.

Their fans, understandably, are delighted. The pick of their social media responses can be found below.
