Aston Villa are in the race to sign Hibernian star John McGinn, according to the Daily Record.

Would the 23-year-old midfielder be a wise signing for the Villans?

We discuss....

Chris Gallagher

A superb signing.

He is a young player who will only improve - it's the transfer strategy they should've adopted 12 months ago.

Whether they can finance a deal, as he won't come cheap, remains to be seen but he would be an upgrade on their current midfield and could excel in the Championship.

Jay Williams

With a quoted price of £3m - £5m, is it really worth it?

For now, they are better off bringing in the best possible free transfers and loan deals they can and offloading fringe players to generate funds. McGinn could be a very good player at Championship level in the future, but it is not what they need right now.

Alfie Burns

McGinn is a talent and he would improve Villa’s squad, if they can get a deal done.

At 23, McGinn is a good age. Villa have focused on bringing in experienced players, with the average age of Bruce’s squad too high.

Addressing that this summer will be key.

Ben Barkworth

McGinn provided five goals and six assists in 35 league games from central midfield for Hibernian last season, but is unlikely to be too expensive.

Therefore, he would be a good acquisition for Villa especially consider their financial situation.
