The Robins have been on the lookout for a new CEO since it was reported that Mark Ashton was stepping down in the summer to join Ipswich Town after their change in ownership.
That has been known for a few weeks now, with Bristol City announcing his successor on their official site.
Gould, who is the son of former player Bobby, has experience in sport, having spent the past decade as CEO with Surrey Cricket Club, with his role important to the success they enjoyed.
Were each of these 20 former Bristol City players left or right footed?
Whilst switching to football will require different qualities, it’s fair to say that the appointment has been met with positivity from the fans who have seen the work that Gould has done in the past.
Here we look at some of the reaction from Twitter to the news…
Quite a substantial moment, I'd say. Certainly the most powerful and influential county chief executive of the recent past – in particular as a fairly staunch sceptic of The Hundred. https://t.co/RA8YrYukZJ

Of all the candidates mentioned I hoped we would secure Richard Gould.

Really hope there’s an incoming Director or Football alongside this appointment. The club needs more football people and this really doesn’t fill that void.
