Sunderland are one of a number of clubs keen on a move for free-agent Steven Caulker, according to reports.

The Black Cats sit rock bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, and Chris Coleman is likely to utilise this transfer window to bring in some reinforcements.

Would former QPR player Steven Caulker be a wise signing for Sunderland?

We discuss....

Sam Preston

I don't see him adding much to a relegation right.

He needs to straighten himself out and play himself into form and Chris Coleman needs players who can come in and deal with extreme pressure right now.

That does not feel like the right environment for Caulker to perform best now and it looks like an awkward fit.

Alfie Burns

This would either be a stroke of genius or a disaster for Sunderland.

Sunderland need bodies in this month, and if someone like Lamine Kone leaves, it is a deal that makes sense to make.

However, if I was Sunderland, I would be looking to hand Caulker a short-term deal, as neither party knows what position they will find themselves in next season.

George Dagless

This would be a good signing.

Sunderland need players who need to prove a point and Caulker is one of those.

I think he could really excel under Chris Coleman if he was to be snapped up.
