Birmingham City are said to have offered Pep Clotet the managerial vacancy at the club according to We Are Birmingham.

It comes after the Blues announced the surprise departure of Garry Monk after just over a year in charge at St Andrew's.

It’s not been the best preparation for Birmingham heading into a new season, with key players being linked with moves away from the club before the season gets underway.

If Clotet is to land the job as Birmingham’s new boss, then he’s surely going to be fighting a losing battle from the off.

The St Andrew’s faithful have every right to feel aggrieved as well, as Monk hardly put a foot wrong in his time with the club.

He guided the Blues to a 17th placed finish last season, but that came after a nine point deduction for the club breaching the EFL profitability and sustainability rules  before he took charge back in 2018.

But would Clotet be a good appointment by Birmingham?

We discuss….

Jacob Potter:

"I'm not sure this would be the best move.

"With the greatest of respect to Clotet, I really don't think he would be a wise appointment by the Blues ahead of next season.

"I have absolutely no idea why they decided to part ways with Garry Monk, and bringing in Clotet strikes me as a panic move.

"Birmingham need a manager that knows the Championship well and has experience of managing a team, and Clotet doesn't fit that description, so it would be a strange decision to appoint him."

Gary Hutchinson:

"I'm not sure it is, no.

"I just can't understand what has gone on there. Surely, there has to be something underlying behind Monk's departure?

"If so, is Clotet involved? He's been there for a while too, so surely appointing him is like suggesting things weren't all that bad?

"I've gone off Birmingham very quickly. Monk did a great job and has been treated badly."

George Harbey:

"This is nothing against Cloter whatsoever, but quite literally, what is the point?

"If the club are going to keep hold of the same backroom staff and personnel, then why not keep Monk?

"The job he has done there has been nothing short of incredible, given the ownership problems off the pitch.

"The whole situation is a shambles."
