Currently 11th in the Championship having accumulated 59 points this season, it has turned out to be a disappointing season for Nottingham Forest.

It has been an inconsistent season for Forest

Things seemed to get better when Dougie Freedman took over, but the club are now winless in six games. It was predicted that they'd be right at the top, pushing for promotion, yet it hasn't gone to plan. But what do the statistics say about their season?

Attacking

Forest have scored 69 goals this season. 68% of those (47 goals) have come from open play, 23% (16 goals) from set piece's, 6% from penalties (4 goals) and 3% from counter attacks (2 goals). 36 goals have come from home and 33 away.

They've averaged 14.8 shots per game this year, 4.6 of those have been on target. They average two offsides per game. Across the season 8% of their shots have come from inside the six yard box, 46% from the 18 yard box and an incredible 46% from outside the box.

They clearly enjoy using the wings, with 41% of their attacks coming from the left side, 33% from the right side and 26% down the middle.

Passing/Possession

The City Ground side have completed an impressive 73% of their passes this season. 73% is also the percentage of short passes they've used this season, along with 21% long balls and 6% crosses. Nottingham Forest are yet to complete a through ball this season.

They've averaged 48% possession this season and 7.2 completed dribbles per game. They've held 31% of possession in their defensive third, 41% in their middle third and 29% in the attacking third.

Defensive

The Reds average 14.3 shots conceded a game and they block 4.3 shots a game. On top of that, they average 18.8 tackles per game, 11.7 fouls and 14.5 interceptions, receiving 65 yellow and three red cards in the process.

I would tip Forest for a promotion push next season, and their statistics for this season are very decent. If they can keep hold of their star players and make the right additions, they can have a fine season.
