Sitting in sixth place having amassed 77 points this season, Derby County will feel they perhaps should've done better this season.

Here's a statistical look at Derby County's season

If you'd told someone at Christmas that Derby would be scrapping for a play-off place leading up to the final day of the season, I don't think they'd have believed you.

It's ended up being a very disappointing for Rams fans, but what do the statistics look like for this season?

Attacking

Derby have scored a total of 85 goals this season, 72% of those (61 goals) have come from open play. 16% (14 goals) have come from set pieces, 7% (6 goals), 4% (3 goals) have been own goals and the remaining 1% (1 goal) from counter attacks. At home, they've scored 48 times and 37 times away.

They've averaged 13.1 shots this season, 4.7 on target. They average 1.5 offsides per game. 8% of their shots have come from within the six yard box, 50% of their shots within the 18 yard box and the remaining 43% outside of the box.

Derby enjoy going through the middle of the park, 64% of their shots have come from the middle of the pitch, 18% of from the left wing and another 18% from the right wing.

Passing/Possession

The Rams have been very good at passing the ball this season, completing 79% of their passes. They play a game of short passing, 82% of their passes being short. 14% of their passes are long and 4% are crosses. They are yet to complete a through ball this term.

They hold a lot of possession, averaging 56% this season and 7.7 dribbles per game. They've held 29% of their possession in their defensive third, 43% in the middle of the park and 30% in the attacking this.

Defensive

Derby have conceded 12.7 shots per game on average and block 3.5 shots per game on average. They make 17.6 tackles per game, they commit 11 fouls per game on average and 13 interceptions. Their players have accumulated 72 yellow cards and 3 red cards this season.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Derby County go up through the play offs after the seasons end, and their statistics are impressive.
