Aston Villa were yesterday linked with a January transfer swoop for Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons, according to the Mirror live blog (15:06, yesterday).

Would the 22-year-old player be a good signing for Steve Bruce's side?

We discuss.....

Chris Gallagher

A smart signing.

The winger is a good player but hasn't really had a chance to get a consistent run of games at Newcastle.

He is very quick and direct which defenders struggle to deal with at times. More importantly, he is available and within Villa's price range.

Sign him up!

George Dagless

I'm a big fan of Aarons.

He's perhaps too inconsistent for the Premier League at the moment but he's got some serious ability when he does turn up.

If Steve Bruce feels he can iron out the discrepancies in his form then I think this could be a top signing.

Adam Simeoni

Young, talented...he could be a real star for Bruce's side.

Villa need some attacking reinforcements, but Aarons would also be considered a risk.

He hasn't particularly proven himself at this level, but he may be worth a gamble if Bruce can get him on a cheap loan deal in the new year.

Alfie Burns

He could be an exciting addition to Steve Bruce’s squad, without a doubt.

Aarons covers an area where Villa are lacking real depth, and would provide ample cover for the likes of Albert Adomah, Robert Snodgrass and Andre Green, when the latter returns from injury.

The 22-year-old lacks first-team experience, but given a chance at Villa Park, he could undoubtedly impress.
