Derby County are close to announcing a deal for George Edmundson, according to Sky Sports.
The Rangers defender has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Ibrox with the 23-year-old limited to just one Europa League qualifying appearance so far.
The Rams are certainly looking for reinforcements to see them through the second half of the season, but would this be a good deal?
The team at FLW have their say…
It is certainly worth a look.
I think he’s a decent defender with plenty of room to grow but I think it makes sense to move away from Rangers for a bit and get playing again.
He’s fallen out of favour at Ibrox thanks to breaching policy concerning pandemic guidelines but he’ll want to show he’s moved on from that.
I think Derby could really make good use of him so it’s a deal that could work out nicely.
Can you name each of these 17 ex-Derby County players just by looking at these 3 clues?
Whilst Derby are certainly heading in the right direction under Wayne Rooney, with just 17 goals in their 26 Championship fixtures this term, a striker would appear more of a priority than a defender before 11pm.
However, the Rams’ defensive numbers could decrease quite significantly in the near future.
Former Arsenal centre-back Krystian Bielik is facing an anxious wait over the injury he sustained against Bristol City on Saturday and could be facing a spell on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, the versatile George Evans has been strongly linked with a move to Millwall before the window closes, so bringing in another defender is a smart decision by Wayne Rooney.
As for Edmundson, his career never really got going under Steve Gerrard, so a move back to England and an opportunity to play for a club like Derby is an excellent one.
I think this could be a useful signing for Derby if they do pull it off.
The Rams are rather short of options in defence, so you can certainly understand why that is an area they would be keen to add to their options in before the window closes.
While Edmundson has never really been given a full chance to impress at Rangers, he did previously show plenty of promise during the early part of his time in England with Oldham, and a move back south of the border could be tempting for him.
As a result, Edmundson could offer some useful cover for Derby during the second half of the season, and may well feel as though he has something of a point to prove here after a slow start to life at Ibrox, something Wayne Rooney’s side could benefit from if he is able to up his game in an attempt to do that.
