Aston Villa's season looks to be heading for mid-table obscurity, after another draw at the weekend to Stoke, a result that left the Villans down in 11th place in the Championship, eight points off six placed Bristol City, but having played two games more than the Robins.

Villa manager Dean Smith is now casting his eye towards next season and bolstering his defence, with 23-year-old Barnsley centre-back Liam Lindsay a player in his sights, according to print edition of the Sun on Sunday (February 24, Page 64).

So would Lindsay be a good signing for Villa?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

“Lindsay would be a good signing.

“I’ve seen him a couple of times this season and he’s been excellent for Barnsley.

“He has ability, poise and strength, it’s rare to find all three qualities in a defender.”

Jacob Potter

"A smart bit of business.

"Lindsay has been impressive for Barnsley this season and he would be fully deserving of a move to a Championship side.

"Villa could be the ideal signing, with Axel Tuanzebe unlikely to return when his loan spell expires."

George Harbey

"This would be a great signing for Villa.

"Lindsay is one of the best young defenders in the country and has played a huge part in Barnsley’s promotion push this season.

"Villa desperately need defensive reinforcements and Lindsay would be a very useful addition."

Jay Taylor

“He has been impressive for Barnsley this season and has been one of the main reasons they are second in League One.

“Reinforcements in defence are needed for the club in the summer after their January additions and continued problems at the back.

“He would be a very astute purchase from Smith.”
