After suffering play-off semi-final defeat to Shrewsbury Town, Charlton Athletic fans will have been keen to see them build on that success.

Lee Bowyer had done a tremendous job after taking over from Karl Robinson to even get the Addicks challenging for the top-six and there was a real sense that he could be the man to take them back into the second-tier.

But with the club’s continuing off-field problems there are far from any guarantees in life for Charlton and nobody really knew what to expect from the transfer window.

It looked set to be another cheap one, however, with free agents and loan signings seemingly all Bowyer had the option to bring in.

One free arrival, however, really caught the eye.

This is FLW Rewind where we take a look back a big decision made by a clun, analyse the initial reaction and document what happens next.

The man in question was former AFC Wimbledon star Lyle Taylor.

The striker had left Kingsmeadow at the end of the previous campaign after his contract had expired, with Charlton winning the race for his signature.

Having scored 14 times for the struggling Wombles last season, the fans were understandably delighted:

And there faith has been justified.

So far, in what has been an injury hit campaign for Taylor, he has managed to bag 14 goals, helping maintain the Addicks’ status as a top six club.
