Nottingham Forest look to have one of their more exciting teams for some time under Mark Warburton.

Certainly, it needs work defensively but it is good going forward and, arguably, it's got the most potential since the sides under former Forest manager Billy Davies.

Under the Scot, Forest often challenged for the play-off spots - where the Reds want to get back to as soon as possible - and so we wondered which players under Davies would get into the team now.

Here's who we thought of...

Alfie Burns

Lewis McGugan.

The midfielder’s career has taken a dramatic fall, but during his days at the City Ground under Davies, he was the driving force behind Forest’s push for the Premier League.

McGugan scored plenty of goals under Davies, with the 2010/11 campaign standing out, with the midfielder scoring 13 Championship goals.

At Forest, McGugan was an exceptional talent, and it is disappointing to see him currently playing in League One.

Chris Gallagher

Wes Morgan would be perfect.

He left for Leicester which didn't go down well with the fans but Forest are crying out for a dominant centre-back like Morgan.

The Reds are weak at the back this season and it's a major issue for Mark Warburton. Morgan was influential in the Billy Davies' teams that made the play-offs and his presence could have a similar impact on this team.

George Dagless

Kelvin Wilson.

Forest need to be better defensively if they are going to get themselves near the top six this season.

Mark Warburton would surely be wise to target new defensive players in the January window and a Kelvin Wilson type player would be ideal.

A rock at the back as Forest challenged for the play-offs under Billy Davies, he performances earned him a move to Celtic.
