Bristol City are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Forest Green Rovers defender Nathan McGinley this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The 22-year-old made 45 appearances for Forest Green in all competitions last season and impressed as Mark Cooper's side reached the League Two play-off semi-finals.

Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest and Swansea City are all interested in signing the defender this summer, as they all look to strengthen ahead of the new season.

So, would Nathan McGinley be a good signing for Bristol City?

We discuss...

Gary Hutchinson

“I didn’t think he stood out for Forest Green last season.

“Then again, you only have to look at the success of Ethan Pinnock to see how a player can develop with a big move.

“My concern with Forest Green defenders is that they’re forced to play out from the back and it made them look susceptible to a high press.

“Perhaps that’s clouded my judgement of McGinley, who I saw twice and who didn’t jump out.”

Toby Wilding

“This could be a risky signing for Bristol City.

“The Robins have enjoyed success recently with young left-backs Lloyd Kelly and Jay Dasilva, and Kelly moving to Bournemouth and Dasilva's loan from Chelsea expired, the Robins will need to strengthen in the summer in that position.

“Given McGinley's young age and lack of experience at this level however, you wonder if he is best suited to stepping into this role as first choice, particularly given they will be looking to push towards the Premier League next season.”

Louie Chandler

“It shows they have their priorities straight.

“With Adam Webster being eyed up by Premier League sides it makes sense for Lee Johnson to start looking at potential replacements.

“Could they do better then McGinley though? Probably.

“It is likely that they will receive a hefty amount for Webster if he goes and that would be better spent on a proven Championship defender.”

George Brooks

“McGinley seems like a decent player and he did well for Forest Green last season.

“It's quite a step up from League Two to the Championship though and it will be interesting to see if he can cope with the pressure of playing for a club who will be expected to challenge for promotion to the Premier League next season.

“He could turn out to be a decent signing, but it's certainly a risk and there are surely more proven defender out there for the Robins.”
